Kickstarter Wish List

#1 - The Ouya video game console.

This is pretty cool. An open video game console. All games have a 1 level free to play option, classic game emulation, the possibility of other controllers being able to be used, and streaming services. I hope at the very least this sparks a few more game developers to invest time in simple fun platformers and games for multiple players that don’t involve DRM, authorization server downtime, and near $100 price tags.

#2 - The Oculus Rift VR Headset

I’ve always been a big fan of VR. One of my favorite movies is The Lawnmower Man. As a kid I got my parents to shell out the $25/10 minutes for those VR demos in the mall. Hell, I even begged for a Virtual Boy for Christmas. I think gaming is just one of many applications for a VR headset. I can’t wait to see what the coders of today have in store for this headset.

#3 - The Memoto Lifeblogging Camera

This one does have a small creeper factor to it, but I think the general concept is amazing. Never missing another “Kodak Moment.” Being able to relive an amazing day. Real candid memories instead of campy “Say Cheese” types of shots. I can think of a few times a day though that I wouldn’t want to record everything I was doing.

#4 - FloCase RFID Reader/Writer Case

I love RFID as a means for authorization and security. It has it’s issues but with this case you have the means to revoke and rewrite tags at will. 

#5 - The iMpulse Video Game Controller

The convenience of this is really what makes me want it. No cords, tiny, and effective for simple games. If you want to quickly fire up an emulator and play a game of Blaster Master this thing will be ready and waiting. 

Honorable Mention - Lockitron RFID Door Lock

This isn’t a kickstarter, but still pretty cool. Created independent of large corporations it’s developed to be awesome, stable, and full featured rather than intentionally handicapped for future profit options or tied to some proprietary protocol.

I’m glad I live in a country where the majority of it’s citizens now believe the direction of the country should be for equality, fiscal responsibility, and Humanitarianism. 

I’m not talking about baked goods here! Raspberry Pi is the revolutionary $25 computer that I’ve been waiting to release for about a year now. They posted on their website the other day to “set your alarm clocks for 0600h!” for the release and… well… epic fail. The two sites they picked to distribute them went down almost immediately, the launch site linked to the distributers main page instead of the product so everyone hit the search engine immediately, and lastly it was two sites in the UK for a worldwide product launch.

I sort of anticipated this was going to happen, so I bought a Seagate Dockstar off Craigslist and have been hacking away on that. It’s been pretty fun and I would highly recommend it. Especially since it will probably be another year before Raspberry Pi is available again.

Then you fucking SOLD OUT, so hardcore that I was embarrassed to have your songs on my mix tapes in my walkman. You fueled the fire for the RIAA MAFIA and DRM which still pisses 99.9% of music fans off to this day. You will always be a symbol of corporate sellouts to me. You always wanted to be legends of metal… you got your wish.

Go directly to the half priced bin, do not collect the respect of fans, do not pass into metal history.

WTF Netflix... a 60% price increase?! [Link]

I can understand raising the price a little to accomdate the greedy bastards at the movie studios… but a 60% increase for the same level of service… In this economy?! Did the financial department sneak this past PR? It will be fun to see the nerdrage backlash this causes.
